Menches Tool and Die Inc.

Problem

Menches Tool and Die Inc. website had been running well for 5 years, but needed major updates to its manufactured parts database by trimming down by 3 thousand parts, while new parts had to added. Popular parts were not listed, losing web search ranking to competitors. Darla from Menches, was also needing a way to promote in stock parts and feature new and custom parts.

In addition to the needs Darla and Menches required, our preliminary Scoping Audit indicated that huge improvements could be made in performance or how quickly the site appeared, with a new block-based Theme with the most current WordPress core software, and implementing current commercially acceptable practices for Search Engine Optimization. In addition, their current site was not compliant with basic commercially acceptable practices for accessibility, which can also affect search engine ranking.

Solution

Shaw Web Designs completely rebuild Menches website from the ground up, using the latest best practices and created a custom WordPress block-based theme, custom templates using Full Site Editing. We merged and created a streamline Excel parts list, which included over 5000 parts and updated part descriptions and search engine friendly custom taxonomies. Once the parts list was confirmed and approved, we imported over 5000 parts into the new WordPress block-based theme in a custom post type with several custom taxonomies. A new more efficient searchable manufacturing parts database field was added throughout the new website.

Even though the rebuilt website maintained the same design of their current website, changes were made to support current screen sizes and viewports. The rebuilt website also allowed for new parts to be added easily by providing a portal for Client to submit all necessary information required to index the new part correctly for search engines and add and promote in stock parts.

By using current commercially acceptable standards and technology their new website will be able to support future growth.

Shaw Web Designs also recommended an in-depth Scoping Audit every 1-2 years to keep in step with ever-changing technology and perform a site refresh as needed.
